Things we need work on: Deceleration Before Wraps and Start Line Stays.
Some of our strengths are: Distance work and Backside Skills.

After some thought, I think Zuko is a Brainiac, which is new for me because my other retired Kelpie is a Maniac. I’ve never had a dog that is a Brainiac. Bringing this to my attention to figure this out has already brought insight to our training. 🙂 Thank you.

I have a question about the barriers with the turns. Since Zuko is a weaving manic, loves the weaves, do you think the poles in the ground will confuse him since it resembles weave poles? Have other dogs tried to weave them? or has it made them question the weaves when you do want them? I know they aren’t spaced the same, just was trying to think ahead. I read what you wrote about using the plastic fencing, and how once you start using it, you must keep using it until his problem is solved or he will only turn tight with the fencing. Would the same rules apply to the sticks in the ground? I really want to try the pole version first. It just seems easier to deal with than the fencing.

He was trained as a puppy with all the other steps you have shown from the start, but he never caught on to the deceleration part, even if a toy is close to the wing. I’m very excited about trying to fix his turns. This is THE reason why I signed up for this. 🙂 🙂

To avoid the confusion with weaves, I would start with a few and setting them up close together into an arch, so it doesn’t look like weaves. Than when he knows the concept I would take out as many as you can and keep the ones that are “critical” – depending on what his style is. I am happy to asist you with that when I see some videos. 🙂
And yes, no matter what kind of a “barrier” you use, you have to do it consistently for a while to get results. And you have to take time “explaining” the rules to him before using it in sequences especially if he is known to be wild. 🙂 Once he gets the rules have changed and that he has to make an effort to stay close, you can add the toy at the wing as well, for extra motivation.
