I am a car service center – she is the biggest socialite – loves to visit with everyone
I have a raised bed with me & she has been on it for about 25 mins eating a chew
I brought her over to the carpet area & played with her & then realized I should video so we were probably out there 10 mins
She knows all of this at home so I wanted to try some things with low distractions
I’m using just kibble and rewarding toy interaction as well as when she chooses me over people walking by
Good girl! 🙂 That was a nice session – the only thing I would pay extra attention to is when to reward. If she is picking up the toy from the ground, you can mark and reward any time you feel like it – based on how much she offers in that particular session. But if you trying to engage her with a toy and she is chasing after it, wait until she grabs it and first let her win before giving her food, even if her grip is soft, relax your grip and let it go. She needs to understand that winning the toy from you is what brings in the goodies – that way she will be more and more engaged and focused on catching the toy and “fighting” for it. If you use the “shaping” criteria here and reward her for just biting into the toy, the whole process will take a lot longer because she will only offer little bites without any intent of actually playing, just offering little gestures like with any other shaping exercise. Hope that makes sense. 🙂
