Thank you for the clarification. That makes perfect sense. 🙂
With Ice I did the same weave/sit stay session that I did with Boss. I was really happy with Ice’s attitude to the channel – much better speed and focus than he’s ever had before! 😀
Judging by today’s session, I think the major problem with weaves has been the reward. When I started training weaves neither Ice nor Boss was really playing with a ball, so I used a food reward – initially restrained recalls with a helper, then a food bowl or MM. Neither of them was very interested and they were popping out of even a wide channel.
Today we started back at square one using a ball, first with a wide open channel then a slightly narrower one. They did much better 😀
I also started working on the very beginning of a sit stay with both boys. They are not very inclined to stay still! 🙂
Thank you for the reminder 🙂 Sometimes I forget the obvious!!! 😛
Lyric had no collar, so we couldn’t unleash…..we’ll work on that next time. This is probably the longest leadout I’ve ever had with Lyric.
In Lesson 3 we’ll keep working on the sit, hopefully work up to a startline stay 🙂
With both Boss and Ice I’ve been working on weaves. All my dogs love weaves…..but not these two (especially Ice!). Is this an appropriate project for Lesson 3 or should we save it for later?
More startline work and a new sequence on the same setup. Today we remembered to wear a collar 🙂
Turns out Ice has no trouble switching between food and toys! 😀
So, given my epic failures with Lyric and Boss, I guess one of my projects for Lesson 3 should be teaching Ice a sit stay. 🙂 What do you think?

We started out with startline games. Unfortunately Lyric had no collar, so we improvised. I’m not sure I did everything in the correct order, but Lyric seemed okay with it. 🙂 I think she’s gradually becoming less stressed when she’s asked to wait.
We also ran one quick sequence. It sure worked much better with the blind cross……not sure what I was thinking with the threadle!!! 😛
Today we tried wraps with a tug toy. Ice loved it! 😀
Thanks, Polona!
I think I’ve found some cat balls that might work for Boss. Now I just have to get them.
As you suggested, today we added a few cues to Food games. “Sit” is still a no-go, but He was otherwise okay.
Today we played some startline games and ran one sequence……no sits!
This was Boss”s first attempt at the multiball game. He doesn’t really play with balls much – even the small ones are too large for him to pick up easily. He was pretty happy to chase, though! 🙂
We also played some variations on tug. As a bonus you get to see Boss throw a mini-tantrum over “sit.” 😀
Sorry, here’s the video that should appear above. There was some sort of error and I couldn’t edit the post.
Today we tried wraps with food throws. I think we need to work on turning away at home first before taking it to the training field. That will be this week’s project. The weather was warmer and much more humid than it has been. The dogs were feeling the heat!
We also played chase/tug. I’ve tried tossing food a couple of times in order to steal the toy back from Ice, but I found that he very quickly learned to win the toy then stop playing and wait for food. This time, instead, I waited until he looked away from the toy or let go – no food involved.
Thank you Polona!
Yes, Boss is very opinionated. He hates to be told what to do. For example, he knows “sit” very well. If I ask him to sit, he usually will. If I ask him to sit again, he will likely plant all 4 feet, look me in the eye, and scream canine expletives at me. 🙂 I’ve taught him a few tricks. He easily learned to put 4 feet in a small container. Even though he knows how to do it perfectly well, he’ll do it once then act like he has no clue what it’s about…..or just scream at me.
I think the games are great for Boss. He’s really enjoying himself and there’s no confrontation 😀
Since Ice was doing wraps today, I tried a few with Boss
Thank you Polona!
Today the dogs were all distracted by some disgusting slimy mold growing in the grass on the training field. I’m not sure what it is, but apparently it smells fascinating…..
I tried some cone wraps with Ice. I needed his very favourite toy to keep his attention. We’ll gradually add distance, but this was a start.
