I will need to experiment with other tug toys. This one is small enough that Ice really likes it, but it’s difficult to grab with 2 hands. The larger tugs are easier for me to grab, but harder for him to get a good grip on.
Today we went back to 4 poles. Ice was a bit distracted, but held it together better than Boss. Both boys have difficulty staying in the channel without motion on my part.
Our sit session was short, because I ran out of treats. Ice is still fidgety, but I think we’re making progress.
I should probably just have abandoned today’s session. Overall Boss was not really into it, and I couldn’t seem to salvage it.
Thank you. It’s just so senseless, so sad.
Today I got home from work too late to do much. It’s maybe not a bad thing – with 2 bitches in season the boys are pretty distracted (girls too!)
I did try the beginning of drop’n’play with Ice.
Thank you. We’re not sure. We think he must have eaten something toxic in the garden, possibly a Sago palm pod. It’s the same garden he played in all his life. The Sago palms had finished dropping berries weeks ago, but the birds bring in pods, seeds and other random stuff and drop them on the ground.
Ignoring cues is most often, but not always, to take an off-course tunnel.
Here is our work on outs. I forgot the cik-cap cues, but Lyric did great. Lyric is in season, which is usually a disaster for training. She occasionally loses focus, but overall I’m really pleased with her attitude.

As with Ice, Boss and I have done a couple more sessions on weave entries and sits. I think I see improvement 🙂
Thank you for your kind words about Hogan. I’m heartbroken – still can’t believe he’s gone. Hogan was one of your great success stories. Let’s Play turned his agility career around 🙂
We haven’t made it to Lesson 4 yet but will get there this week. Meanwhile, we’ve done a couple more sessions on weave entries and sits.
The girls have moved to the other end of the house and Ice seemed eager to work when I was training Boss. I thought we’d give weave entries a try in familiar surroundings. Looking at the video, I think the session was a bit too long, but I kept going because he seemed to be figuring things out.
We tried a sit stay, but I had the same problem as with Boss. Every time I moved my hand, Ice popped up.
Thank you, Polona!
As you suggested, we went back to shaping the weaves. We still don’t have a lot of lateral distance, but I think Boss is beginning to get the idea. 🙂
With sits, as soon as I move the hand with the treat Boss pops up. It must be me, because all my dogs do this. With Lyric the only way I could get her to stop moving when we were training conditioning exercises was to take the food out of the picture. Today the more we tried the more fidgety Boss got. I finally gave up.
So today was not Ice’s best day….maybe because there are 2 bitches due to come into season? I’m not sure.
Initially we tried the weaves with the orange balls he loved previously….not much interest. We then ran a couple of short jump-tunnel sequences with a tug toy and he did great. Since the tug appeared to be the toy of choice we tried it in the weaves – awkward, but at least he engaged. I then tried a different type of ball. It was a bit more successful than the orange balls, but not great.
We finished off with some sits. Ice was still distracted but he was trying 🙂
Thanks, Polona!
Today we did a little more work on sits
We’ve done a couple of sessions on shaping weave entries. Today we tried running the full set of poles with an open channel. I think Boss is starting to look for the entry a bit more.
Thank you, Polona!!
I’m so pleased to see Lyric happy to play agility…….and even happy to wait at the start line with anticipation. 😀 For the last few months both Lyric and I were getting pretty discouraged with training. It seemed the harder we tried, the less motivation Lyric had. Thank you so much for your help!
I can’t say that Lyric dislikes any obstacles. We could certainly work on staying in the weaves. It’s not that she doesn’t like weaves – sometimes she’s just in a hurry to move on.
At the end of the last UKI trial we ran under Manca, she commented that most of our “E”s were on slices. One course in particular had a line of serps/threadles after a tunnel – we were not very successful! I’d like to work on serps/threadles/pushes, particularly where Lyric has an extra speedy approach.
Another problem that came up from time to time was ignoring cues. I’m not referring to my frequently late or absent cues, but to the times I was actually there in plenty of time cuing a turn…….only to have Lyric say “no, I see you, but I’m taking the off-course tunnel first.” 🙂
Today we played a bit more with start lines and ran the last of the short sequences. Lyric really enjoys these. I didn’t cue the left turn out of the tunnel correctly, but Lyric did a great job 🙂
Here’s our first attempt at shaping entries.
Yes, definitely, we need to work entries! I wasn’t exactly sure how to use the food bowls in the setup you showed. Am I dropping a treat into the bowl for each correct entry? Because I wasn’t exactly sure (sorry!) I tried shaping the entry but tossing treats.
We also did a little more work on sits. Boss actually offered a few sits 🙂
