This was our first attempt at building a bit of duration. Hudson has his dad’s “happy feet” – in nonstop motion. I’m not sure how to get rid of this without totally frustrating him.

We played around with the platform. Hudson almost forgot that he hates to come in close 🙂

Sounds good! Today we did one rep and it was ok.

We tried a couple of the variations on food throws that you suggested. At first Hudson was a bit confused by the platform, but today the penny dropped and now it’s his best friend 🙂

            Thanks, Polona!

We retried the restrain. I think this will take some practice. He doesn’t love this game 🙂

              Yes, he is! 🙂

I’m not sure if this is exactly what you meant with the food toy……but at least this time Hudson wasn’t quite so inclined to play “keep away.”

We also tried a restrain. None of my Paps is very keen on being restrained. Hudson didn’t like me holding the harness – holding his hindquarters worked better. By the way, there were extra-good treats in the bowl.

Thanks, Polona! We’ll work on introducing a platform.

This was Hudson’s first introduction to a food pocket toy. He’s more excited about the tug than the food, but he’s happy to work for food and is willing to trade.

A lot of our training will be done indoors for now. My work days are often very long and I get home too late to work outside. We tried a small space version of the Engagement game. Hudson does not like to come in close and prefers to work/play at arm’s length. I was pleased that he would jump on me

Today we played with a couple of the sequences from Lesson 3. Boss was focused and happy – even in the face of major distraction!! 😀 Keeping things short and fun seems to be working for him. Ice is super-enthusiastic…..but still loses focus in mid-stride.

For a change today I set a jumpers course to promote some go go go. Next session we’ll go back to shorter sequences and play sessions. There was lots of play after each run….but not always captured by the videographer 🙂 Ice was today’s star – only one run, but with lots of speed and enthusiasm! Boss was okay with the run, but really couldn’t be bothered with the weaves. I tried working the weaves later with his favourite whip toy, but weaves were not in his contract today.

In today’s session I tried to incorporate most of your suggestions……and what a difference it made! As soon as I stopped being super-boring both boys’ attitudes changed completely 🙂 Ice did need a time out but came back ready to engage.

Apologies for the length of the videos, but I thought it was important to include play/rewards.

We finally found a window to do some training after days and days of rain!

Well I intended to keep the weaves for the end of Ice’s session…..but he had other ideas. 😀 He actually likes the weaves until he gets frustrated. I lost him at times in this session, but he did come back and stayed enthusiastic to the end.

I tried to encourage “go go go” with Boss. He was a good boy but isn’t really driving as much as he could. Do you think I should be setting more challenging sequences for him. He sometimes seems like he’s just going through the motions but isn’t really excited.

                            Thanks, Polona!

Boss enjoyed the challenge of introducing the weaves. Oops – I missed one premature weave exit. Ice seems to learn skills and then lose them. For a while it was tunnels……now he is ducking out of the weave poles and can’t send to a jump……not sure why.

For a change of pace from tunnel/jump circuits, we ran one of Manca’s courses today. Lyric does hit the DW contact if the handler reminds her to “touch.” 🙂

The weaves are almost closed and we’re continuing to fade the wires. I wanted to try this tunnel setup once more before taking it down. We used a new toy and kept the session short – no “fallout” this time 🙂

I’m not sure exactly what to make of today’s session. Ice seems happy to play, engaged, and pretty speedy……..then in mid-stride he loses focus and leaves to sniff. He wasn’t tired. We had done a few weave poles but nothing else.
