sorry I’ve not been around. I had family visiting for thanksgiving.

here’s what we’ve been working on.

crazy balls: kicking the ball is definitely making a difference. He loves it when I dribble it. I think I need more variability in what I’m doing, dribbling vs kicking vs letting him come in for it.

engagement game: he’s definitely more enthusiastic this way.

food throws: me really running and sending him further also seems to really be helping.

      looking forward to your feedback!

here’s what we’ve been working on for the last few days. We got stuck inside today because it’s raining all day.

the engagement game I feel like he’s doing well. He’s very enthusiastic when shaping things normally. He likes to jump around and bark, with me standing he’s less willing to offer that so I’m trying to wait him out.

        food throws

he did really great outside and was a little slower inside. I added some sits and tricks in

        crazy balls

He was doing really well so I added in some tricks too.

I found some videos on my phone of how he is typically when training. Hopefully this helps you get the whole picture.

here’s the video from training with Manca.
I don’t have any current videos of him at his best. Im away with my older dogs trialing right now but I can get some Monday.
<span style=”text-align: right;”>he likes chasing net balls and chasing dragged toys. He likes to jump around for kissy noises.</span>

troublesome noises for him: dogs barking in crates. He’s usually okay with dogs barking while running and or warming up but in crates or in the car makes him very nervous,  construction noises like drills, gun shots, loud banging noises (he seems okay with the teeter). When he’s already nervous clapping can make him nervous but when he’s not nervous he loves clapping

I went to my agility class last night to work on some of the stuff from this class somewhere else.

I think the beginning was really great and then I got lazy. My last turn in class didn’t get videoed but I picked it up there again. He seems to really love the chasing part.

In one of the reps I asked him for stationary behaviours which was a mistake. He was slower on that one.

As far as trials go, yes we have to be on leash to enter and exit the ring. So I’m thinking I can walk him through the gate, and then unclip and start the chasing game

Sorry I’ve been away. My sister came to visit and then the weather was horrible. But after almost a week off I’m really happy with todays little session.

I think the balls worked better than the dragged toy. And I think keeping him guessing is going to be better for him than having a set of tricks that I do in order everytime.

I think the running was quite helpful. He has a history of being rewarded for that. It’s usually how I start to cool him down after class or a competition run.

Do you think it should be a pattern every time, like left right bark sit stay so he knows what’s coming and there are no questions or change it up so there’s anticipation?

Do you think a chasing type toy might Ben better? I wonder if there’s too much pressure from me on such a small toy that something dragging and further away from me might be better?

I started with crazy balls and outs as a warm up. I think he really liked that. Next time I’m going to work some stays into that too. I just didn’t think about that off the bat today. There were a few I mixed in lefts and rights. Watched my handling back and the ones where I was not handling well he was a bit confused but I can work on that.

Then I worked the grey squares of lesson three. I think he did really well.

“Overall I don’t think his speed was bad, given that you didn’t really have to move much, as I said, the longer it got, the more he was running so I can imagine it will get even better on a full scale course.” typically when using a stay on a full course he’s slow to start and builds speed as the course continues. I’m hoping to be able to change that and have him racing the whole time.

I set up the sequences from lesson 3 and ran the white squares on that course. I think I could push for more speed but overall I’m pretty happy.

I broke the sequences into a few sections and then went back to leave a toy at 5 to try to help the turn be tighter.

I think this went much better. There were a couple of reps that aren’t in this video (they were in another clip that now I can’t find) where he wasn’t sure and got kind of stuck and I just sent him back to the original jump and tried again. Then I made a big party so he really knew oh that’s what she wants!!

I think today went much better. I feel like I’m still really struggling with the idea of a start line. Maybe that’s to come or I’m missing something. Should I work on adding back in crazy balls and the straight tunnel and a single jump and back to the u shaped sequence?

I worked on some ins and some outs. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong for him to be confused. Do I need to slow it down again? Or take a step back

Todays training didn’t go as well. I don’t know if I’m leaning to far over him for the in in’s.

I started the video with left and rights so you can see them.

Then I did a few left and rights on jumps. One he turned left instead of right but I just kept saying right and he corrected himself by taking the jump again and turning right.

I wanted to work on some ins and outs after that. And they just didn’t go super well. I had a few ideas, I’m leaning to forward so he doesn’t know what I want, the bars were too high for now, or the jumps were too close together. I lowered the jumps and I think they were better.

I did a little bit of crazy balls just over the jump to try to pump him back up after our struggles.

Here is a little of the in and out. I want to make sure that I’m going it right before moving on. He has a left and right turn in front of me, beside me, towards and away. I can video that if you want to see it.

The out I use the word zoom, and the in is here. I mixed in a few left and rights too. I don’t remember how many I put in the video.

I added some wings by the tunnel. It went fairly well. I think I could be more creative. I tried a few with sits and a reward quickly. I think that helped with speed off the start.

I had a hard time with the static you. He ran over top of the toy for the one in my hand. What should I do differently?

The lure out of the turn I think went really well.

I took this video a few days ago and thought man she hasn’t said anything yet. Turns out I never submitted it. So this was some of the u shaped sequence working in turns.

This video is from today. I worked on some more turns and stays before the sequence.

I also did some crazy balls with more wings.
