Hi Polona,
we’ve worked on it a few times now. She has trouble staying down and gets up too early in about 50% of the attempts. I edited the video a bit to include a few good and a few not-so-good tries.
At the end, I also added the game with the treat dummy — she really loves that!
I now put her in the car during breaks in training.
Can I reward her with the treat dummy during the competition? Unfortunately, we’re not allowed to take treats into the course…
Do you think we can continue a bit with the toy games in parallel?
Thanks, I’ll try to implement it that way! 🙂
During training she is usually tied up next to the course. She mostly lies down and even sleeps while other teams are on the course…
Today we did the Engagement Game and the Food Pocket.
First time in her life she started barking on me!! 🙂
Today I thought about something:
At home we have a separate area where the dogs stay when our daughter is crawling around. When Never is in there and I come in, she develops a huge drive—she jumps straight up from a standstill like a rubber ball, about 1.20 meters high, nonstop… Sometimes she even really screams.
It’s strongest when she notices that I’m preparing food, interacting with another dog, or picking up the leashes to go for a walk.
If I could transfer that drive into agility…
Yes, I can shorten the runs at competitions. Do you mean that I should reward her with a toy after three obstacles, for example? And then leave the course? Or how exactly would that make sense?
In training it’s exactly the same with her, except that she now takes the toy well. Especially when mistakes happen in training, she becomes very slow afterwards.
Here is a Video of her in competition. She doesn’t like to stay in the start position and tends to break it too early. But she lacks drive—somehow she never really gets fast, even though she can really go full speed, for example when out on a walk.
Starting next week, I’ll be training twice a week with a trainer again. But I’m free to decide what I want to train here. If necessary, I can switch to one of my other dogs for a while. In two weeks, we’re going on vacation for 14 days, so there won’t be any agility during that time anyway.
Our next competition is this weekend — we’re at trials almost every weekend, usually for one or two days.
Oh, and I have another question: is it okay if I continue competing with her in tournaments while we’re also working on her motivation?
At competition, I currently reward her with cheese after the runs, and occasionally a short tug game works as well.
Hello Polona,
We practiced Lesson 1 at home for two days now, but she already knew the game. Unfortunately, I don’t have a video of it yet. She usually scratches my hand with her paw so that I give her the treat.
Here I filmed Lessons 2–5 today:
