Jump up
We have struggled with high arousal when getting ready for a walk. When Oliver sees his leash or harness he would begin to scream, jump, lunge, grab the leash. This is from 2023 https://share.icloud.com/photos/0215nhO93tMTJNeb85dOJpkVw
and 2025 https://share.icloud.com/photos/086qLHv6RnlPOSd9_uP2aqtuw
I’ve tried feeding him for each small step of the process, I’ve tried transferring the energy to a tug toy, I’ve used different styles of leashes, harnesses and here is another older video. https://share.icloud.com/photos/040R_K9ZrIGvkcIXMUC5kpe3A
I still walk him with a head harness and that helps with the pulling. I use the body harness is for the car. https://share.icloud.com/photos/040R_K9ZrIGvkcIXMUC5kpe3APutting his harness on by the back door is the worst so I use different locations. https://share.icloud.com/photos/0837M5VUSbUrkEhrC_a7-S-Yw
I’ve stopped trying to walk him to the car, I pick him up and carry him. There’s a park right across the street but if I try to walk him there he screams, pulls, lunges and bites the leash so I drive him. At one point was over 110 decibels and has improved greatly. https://share.icloud.com/photos/06bJAQVbgLIgtuDS4JaBbcxXg
Last night at agility class I was getting him out of the kennel for his turn and as I was getting the head harness on, he turned to grab it, started jumping and lunging and nipped my hand and forearm. Fortunately a leash was attached to his collar. He lost his turn and I put a basket muzzle on him and put him back in the kennel before packing up and leaving. He drove home for 90 minutes with the basket muzzle on. I was told to leave the muzzle on overnight and will take it off this morning when I feed him breakfast.

In the future I will make sure that the other pups cannot interfere.
