Thanks Polona, as always, a working progress 🙂
We continue to play, retrieves, toy swops. His new fluffy toy proved a little harder to swop.
Hi Polona
Thank you, we are working on everything!
Have work with his food toy this week in short sequence building them, is this approach OK for him?
Just not 100 % sure on how to handle when he makes a mistake, cause I have to keep that light…..
Working on retrieve, will post in next video.
Hi Polona
Nothing like a reality check to keep you on your toes :):):)
Am I understanding you are saying that yesterday was good but, if he lacks confidence at any point its a guessing game of how to get him back to confident? and we can go backwards.
Can you please in simple terms can you tell me what this looks like – I would also start doing engagement game both at home and everywhere else you go. We can combine it with start line stay and release into whatever action he fancies at the moment, but we need to start “imprinting” a routine you will be able to replicate on trials.
Is this using the food toy – because we know his reaction is high and engaging – I just prefer to go safe when it comes to obstacle training.
THANKS SO MUCH
Hi Polona
(sorry its a long one – BUT SO SO WORTH IT!)
I am glad you like my commitment level 🙂
If last video was little big victory – this one is HUGE victory!!!
We had x2 days of shows – precursor to this is a new toy (my mom has a small dog toy business) and made him a fake fur toy, which to both our surprise is he love it!!!
1. got out the care – toilet – then tried to toy play……AND it worked!!! He chased it, tugged it, he was happy!
2. @1.52 did the same happy – I went straight into the ring, he was apprehensive but I just ran him, no set up. He coped well and very happy. i did x2 short sequences.
3. @3.08 he tugged and fetched the toy with my mom!!!!
4. @3.39 i did the same as the first run, played on the side and walked into the ring, he did notice the judge and definitely his energy level went down, I just continued talking to him and engagement with the toy. Although he did miss the three jumps he was happy and driving…..until he noticed the PEOPLE!! but he was brave and carried on.
5. @5.27 this was I think a BIG ask – putting the lead on coming out the crate, I see this puts pressure on him. He played with the lead on!!!! SUPER!!! I walked to the ring, I can see him loosing confidence when I asked for the set up, he is coming back really nicely. I was so HAPPY with this run.
6. @7.29 the last ring time we had – when I took him out there was too much food around, friend working her puppy with food and it was like mom this is really hard, so instead of trying and trying and trying, i opted for the food toy. (is that the correct option???)
This was the best mothers day gift!!!
Hi Polona
Hope your week has been productive!
I am going ahead with PLAY PLAY PLAY, when ever he looks like its a possibility.
This week’s little big victory for the first time he was watching me play with Sydney and walked over, and actively got involved….this was very unexpected as he would usually only want to engage with Sydney.
Tried GET SET and RELEASED, while playing inside, as part of the play, i didn’t ask for any position.
Our garden work, I did our agility to a place food toy and thrown toy, I think it when well.
And another first, he played – not recorded, about 40 secs, before I did his agility training for food which hes never done. Afterwards he also played.
All in all I think a positive week!
Hi Polona
I won’t tell my husband he’ll want to marry you, farm, shed, donkey ha ha ha, its his dream!!
We have two steps forward one step back, but I keep reminding myself that progress isn’t linear.
He worked sonwellnfornthebred ball in the courtyard, maybe I went on too long? He lost interest, I did get him back playing with my hand, which I thought was pretty good.
Garden work, he worked like a star for his food, in such a good mood. Took a break and thought i would try the red ball, but no luck, so I went back to food, was that the right decision?
And the he wanted to play, which is unlike him while I was training?!?!? He took my tee back to the lounge but the came back!?!?!!?
One thing I haven’t mentioned or asked your opinion on is, I give him RELAXMAX its a natural anxiety supplement.
Hi Polona
To add to the above video, you can see he was happy and tugging and playing with the red ball. I took it outside in the garden….I know you have explained the sameness of home, which for him is inside, did I do the right thing.
Even though the dogs where away, he could hear them.and was distracted, you can see hes picking it up with reluctantly.
I then did it for his food? Is that the right approach?
Hi Polona
Hope farm life is going well!
I feel we having so many victories…
I have tried different things to play with, socks, tugs, dishcloth, my hands, caps, my clothing all with variances of success.
What was HUGE this week is Greece is definitely choosing me over, not always, the other dogs around him. And the red hollee roller which 1 week ago held no interest he picked up this week and brought to me to engage!!!!
So I tried it around a wing and it seems successful, I tried to be conscious of my praise and not going into his space, he to me seems much happier and braver.
Hi Polona
Thank you for your mail, I will email you separately.
But for now, we played over the weekend of shows. Please let me know if the video is too long, I just wanted to show you the variances we got.
Some really good, some showing slight anxiousness….
<p style=”text-align: center;”>

This dog is so conflicting, he seems to be growing and loving doing let’s play exercises, not without its challenges but I see the happiness and confidence growing. Tugging at the flied was huge!! But i think my enthusiastic YES was a bit much!!
<p style=”text-align: left;”>Hi Polona,

My turned to be surprised!!!After his dinner, hes very happy and runs to try and get the other dogs to interact, but very rarely does it involve me and a toy, but these last gew weeks we have had small interacting with toys.
But we had a good little tug play, you will see him show his insecurities but he does come back.
You said to think out the box so I have been trying different ideas of TUGGING…so I tried tied to his bed and to the crate door.
AND THE BIGGEST WIN the toy in the courtyard!!! Again glimpses of insecurity, I hope I helped him in the right way?

hi Polona
we tried out the food toy holding exercise – I think we did way better than I though it was going to go! he did attempt to pull the handle which I just worked with….
catching treats – again this was better than I was expecting us to achieve!
compressed focus – little bit of focus, intensity needs to build up.
the last play session – this was “what will he do with a sock he won if you didn’t start more action immediately?” he had a ball, and tried best to tell him how wonderful he was to have his toy, before interacting physically with the toy.

thank you for the feedback – I will work on the FOOD POCKET this week.
we go to do some of the games at the training field – longer food throws which I think went well, and our engagement game was way better, this would have been our 4th session of this game.
He is definitely engaging more with the food toy being the RABBIT, and at the field – this would usually not keep his focus, he would be worried about the people/dogs around him, and walk off, i only did exactly what is on the video.
our start lines in the ring – did not go as well as home, he wasn’t at all focused and kept walking off, looking around.
BUT he drove beautifully out the ring to his food toy, which is a HUGE WIN!!
Morning
We did a little homework, engagement game need HUGE work, is it ok to encourage him into my space? When I make breakfast he’ll jump up next to me, but he has always been a very polite dog, prefers to run circle in front of me than jump into me.
Food toy, he’ll chase but won’t tug it! Longer run of jumps definitely helped him chase the line to the toy, placed and thrown.
And I tried to be more of the rabbit with the toy (ha ha)

Hi PolonaThank you for the feedback.
Youll see the new set up, and his drive to the food toy which I have continued with, but hes not forceful with it.
Also he was a little more forceful trying to get a piece of meat out my hand so I tried the chicken on a string….I think he showed a bit more life….and we attempted the hiding game.
